The Algarve
A funny thing happened on the way to the first tee. Mother Nature decided to open the skies and give us some home town weather. Yes, it poured! But being the nimble travelers we are, we headed south to the Algarve where it was cloudy, but not raining.
The Algarve is along Portugal's southern border and boasts some of the best weather in Europe. This is where many of the golf resorts and surfing towns are.
We took the 3 hour drive to Faro and enjoyed a pizza lunch before learning that there are storks here. Yes, those storks! And one look at the hood of our car told us that the seagulls in Seattle do not hold a candle to the storks in Portugal. I will save everyone from seeing the picture Sonja took of the car. However, you can see the storks.
Faro
We really liked Faro. It's an old town with a great vibe. We had been seeing some phenomenal looking pizza in Lisbon so we were anxious to try it for lunch. But, I have to admit. This one wasn't as great as we were expecting. It was good, just not "floor you" good.
I mentioned before about the tiled sidewalks and in Faro, they are works of art.

We went into a store that sold tinned fish. Remember, Portugal is all about seafood. Well, you can get just about any kind you want in a tin.
Another aspect of Portugal that I love are the doors into the houses. Faro did not disappoint.
The End Of The World
Back before the Portugese sailors began exploring the world, we all learned in grade school that they thought the world was flat. If you can picture a map of the flat world back then, the southwest corner of Portugal was considered the end of the world. So, of course, we had to go.
I don't have words to express how stunning this spot was. I'll let the pictures and videos speak for themselves.
Next posting will feature Obidos and Fatima. If you like what you've seen so far, you're going to love the next post. See ya guys!
